John’s Perspective
  • Leapt in his mother’s womb at the sound of Jesus’ mom’s voice (Luke 1:41)
  • “There comes One after me who is mightier than I, whose sandal strap I’m not worthy to loose.” (Matt. 3:11, Mark 1:7, Luke 3:16, John 1:27)
  • “I need to be baptized by You, and You are coming to me?” (Matt 3:14)
  • “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29, 36)
  • “He must increase, but I must decrease.” (John 3:30)
  • Gets thrown in prison for over a year (Matt. 3:14, Mark 6:17, Luke 3:19-20)
  • “Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?” (Matt. 11:3, Luke 7:19)
Philippians 1:12-14 (NKJV)
But I want you to know, brethren, that the things which happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel, 13 so that it has become evident to the whole palace guard, and to all the rest, that my chains are in Christ; 14 and most of the brethren in the Lord, having become confident by my chains, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.
Paul’s Perspective
  • The things which happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel (v. 12)
  • It has become evident to the whole palace guard, and to all the rest, that my chains are in the Lord (v.13)
  • Most of the brethren…are much more bold to speak the word (v.14)

While Paul was in prison, he wrote Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon. His perspective then is still changing the world now.
